 PerlDesk 4.20 (Stable)
Section: Unix

Added: Thu, Nov 29th 2001 17:22 UTC (6 years, 8 months ago) Updated: Tue, Jan 22nd 2008 10:13 UTC (7 months, 1 day ago)

Screenshot About:
PerlDesk is a fully featured help desk, ideal for companies with several technicians who are required to support many users. It incorporates many features to streamline support and improve customer relations, such as: Email and web based ticket submission, staff logging, a knowledge base, and user registration.

Release focus: Minor feature enhancements

Changes:
This release has the ability to generate reports on ‘time spent’ on help desk tickets. This allows you to generate a report on a per user, all user, or per staff basis to view statistics on the time that has been spent on tickets in a specific period. This data could then be used to bill for tech support using an external system. Response count has been added to the tickets list in staff view. A check for external modules has been added to the upgrade procedure. A check for up-to-date pdesk.sql has been added to the upgrade procedure.

[»] OTRS free alternative

While PerlDesk is no longer free, OTRS is an open source (GPL) trouble ticket system. PerlDesk is an excellent system but if you are looking for something open source or free try it, freshmeat homepage at: http://freshmeat.net/projects/otrs/

[»] Free CSM software that rivals commercial releases.

If you are looking for a ticket tracker, check out perldesk - it has an amazing amount of feautures and automatic incomming email ticket generating.

It allows you to have clients register and login to register a ticket, or you can even have it intercept certain emails (eg. support@ or sales@) and generate a ticket, send the ticket# to your client and also sending you an email to let you know that there is a new "issue" at hand.

Cost? Get this... you sitting down yet? It's FREE!

I've looked at several different helpdesk (CSM/CRM) type programs, almost bought a $100 commercial release and I thought that was cheap.

When I found perldesk I was sceptical because it is a free program, but the author has been very helpful in helping me out whenever needed; it does everything we need it to do and then some.

The fact that it is piped in to accept incomming emails means that we can and (do) have automatic ticket generating on our online forms as well; no more lost leads or support issues!

It is completely customizable, you can change the way it looks entirely. Simply put, it is a very powerful software solution to handle all your customer relations and support issues and the fact that it is free is completely amazing to me.

This is true - but considering that you are commenting on a comment that was written over 9 months ago, go figure.

And even at $39.95 - what a fricking steal for such an advanced software. Nothing out there that I have found matches it's capabilities, stability and affordability.

I never said that it wasn't a worthwhile application or that the comment
was timely, only that the license has changed.
