[»] Is it Possible?
by eMgE - May 5th 2003 23:15:07

I have webhosting through phpwebhosting and i believe they meet all of the requirements to run squirrelmail. Does anyone know if its possible to setup squirrelmail in a directory of my hosting space? I'm kinda new to this stuff and i've been trying to go through the install instructions but, im having some trouble.

How about adding links to local files w/ ACL - like a quasi-portal. Other webmails have done it.

As squirrelmail uses imap server for authorization, you have to create imap accounts. It depends on imap server you use, but many imap servers use plain system accounts. So, see man useradd.

[»] Calander Notifactions
by James Maccer - Nov 6th 2002 12:56:58

Has anyone considered creating calander notifactions. Possibally something that could send out an email to the users 2 way pager or cell phone a few hours ahead of time. I am willing to work on this project but I will need a little bit of help. Or if the project is currently being worked on I would love to give a hand. Thanks

[»] Color configurations (Themes)
by Mike - Jul 19th 2002 19:40:07

Overall I like your webmail system. :)

But I have a feature request:

I would like to see colors for themes paired (Background and Font colors) and broken out more. This would allow using contrasting colors for things like table headers and the side bar. I'd also like to see the ablility to change the color of the background table on the left.

I'm more than willing to help, but these changes tend to break the themes that are already there. I've tried various changes in my local copy, and found that some colors are used in unexpected places. It is also pretty difficult to track down exactly where each is used.

I love squirel mail, but it would be even better if it supported nntp, and showed attached gif/png/jpeg files "inline".

[»] Exchange killer!
by PanSerg - Apr 27th 2002 18:47:36

This application potentialy may become as a M$Exchange killer. The core is already solid, flexible and scalable. All it needs is a further development of such plugins as Calendar and Notes.

And it may need one more one more feature (in plugin?): virtual folders as in vm-mode of Xemacs

[»] Vast Functionality
by Lou I - Apr 24th 2002 13:08:43

Squirrelmail has it all. After many months searching for the perfect web-based email system this one IS IT. It has IMAP Support, web-folders, address book, great attachment system, CC: system, HTTPS support, notification java-script popup. Its basically a free-yahoo out of the box. Also has a vast available plugins and very customizable. Its truly remarkable. and its GPL.... =)
HIGHLY Recommended, a Possible 11 out of 10!

[»] Virtual Hosts
by marko - Apr 16th 2002 14:03:48

First of ALL...THANK YOU for The BEST webmail out there.....

just want to add my 2 cents about virtual hosts.....
i found it very usefull....you can add a PHP variable $HTTP_HOST under Organization Name....This will result in your domain name (i.e. mail.yourdomain.com) being displayed on the front log in page.....very usefull when you have virtual domain hosting :)

[»] add more trove categories
by deckard - Dec 11th 2001 05:43:40

i'd like to recommend to add more trove categories.
environment: web-environment could be added, and os: os-independent.

Actual categorization doesn't display SquirrelMail, if I filter MUA and web-environment, that, I think is a bad thing.

No, it couldn't, because it's already there.

    > and os: os-independent.

You can accomplish this by not setting an OS category.

[»] The best webmail ever made !
by nicolas cartron - Dec 6th 2001 16:42:54

Since I'm using this webmail, I totally forgot other webmails or others outlook or eudora...

Squirrelmail is very light (I've installed it on a FreeBSD 4.4 celeron 500 and 256 MB SDRAM), very powerfull and there is a lot of plugins if you want to customize it (poping accounts, autocomplete, delete move next, even the weather :)))

Congratulations to the squirrelmail team !
Thanks.

Yes its amazing how low resource intensive it is. I am running mine on a Pentium I 200Mhz, with 48 Mb of EDO RAM using Red Hat Linux!

[»] feature request/improvements
by hobbes2000 - Oct 10th 2001 14:36:33

Hi,

I just started using it and it's been great so far!! Nice work!!!
Here's a few things that ran across my mind as I was using it:

1) Change the "Select All" option to only select the listing shown at that time, not all the items in the list otherwise make a "Select This Page" option so there's more flexibility. Seems it would be faster to just select only one page without that server-side processing to select every item when all I wanted to do was quickly clear up that page of listing.

2) For the color highlighting, make the drop down (if possible show what the actual colors should look like during the selection step or make them radio buttons showing the color is drop-downs with color isn't possible.

3) Is it possible to make the address book recognize the .addressbook file? Saves a lot of reentry time.

4) Perhaps have option to put in your own custom image or banner. Make this an option so that someone who doesn't want to see it doesn't have to suffer.

Again great work....

I see what you are saying, but I don't think that most people would find this desireable.

As for server side processing, there isn't a pure HTML4 way to do this in the browser, but there is a java based plugin if you go for that sort of thing.

Maybe. Send us a patch and we'll consider it.

Not unless the permissions on the system are grossly miss-configured one way or the other.

    There is a plugin.

[»] SquirrelMail is solid
by Jeff Thompson - Aug 8th 2001 10:46:06

I've been using SquirrelMail intensively for 3 months. I've been very impressed with how solid a product it is. The installation was clean, the configuration was straightforward, and in using it, I have not encountered a single problem. I've also been very impressed with several of the plugins, and how easily the functionality is incorporated into the base system.

Keep up the excellent work!

I've been using IMP from http://www.horde.org/imp, which would seem to be Squirrel's main competitor. I would say that Squirrel's main strength compared to IMP is its flexibility. IMP is more of a heavyweight though, particularly in the area of MIME formats, etc.

Do you know if both work with Lynx ? I couldn't connect to SquirrelMail's site, and the demo for IMP uses JavaScript, so at least this piece won't work with any text-based browser.
