Interface is great but the app is slow and unstable

I simply canot close it normally ..
I keep using kill -9 ...
not to mention that on startup it eats a 100% of my cpu
I have to kvm to another box while is downloading binary posts just to
browse the net
(duron 950 ,650 MB ram, fluxbox on slackware current)
The only reason to use it is becouse there's nothing better out there

I've switched from Knode to Pan 0.14.2, and am pretty happy. Actually, I
thought Knode rocked in general, so the fact that I prefer Pan is high
praise for Pan. The only problem I've experienced is that the killfile
mechanism is broken, but AFAICT from surfing the project's web page, that
bug has been fixed in the latest beta version.

Pan 0.11.94

I've been using Pan pretty much since the project
began. After I upgraded to 0.11.94 it started up with
the settings wizard asking me for all the servers
again.
Figuring there had been a change in the format, I
shrugged and filled it in. Everything worked as
before.
When I started it the next time, it asked for my info
AGAIN! It seems to ignore the server settings every
time it starts. Any help?

Pan pops up the new user dialog whenever it can't find
any identities in the profiles.xml file, typically in the
~/.pan directory. Do you have a file ~/.pan/profiles.xml?
This is an awkward forum to track bugs; please file
a bugzilla report via http://pan.rebelbase.com/bugs/
and we'll continue this there.

At last a reasonable news reader for linux.

I recently installed PAN and I have found it a very good tool indeed. It
has had a few threads block and become unusable (well they seemed to anyway
in the task queue) and I have had X crash twice while using it but that may
be coincidental. This is a usable tool for me and I can't wait for it to
stabalise even more!
Keep up the good work.
PS any chances of getting this onto OSX? My secondary machine is OSX.

running on OS
X.

The crashing of my X was coincidental - It was related to my video card.

pan rocks

Finally, pan is becoming extremely stable (hasn't crashed on me since the
0.9.7 pre versions) and even more usable. The memory footprint is also a
lot better now. It has a few features still missing (posting binaries and
getting parts of binaries from multiple servers) to make it perfect, but
then - what is perfect? ;-)
Pan is already the graphical newsreader of choice for downloading
binaries, period.

Overall a nice newsreader, but...

Im really getting fscking TIRED of losing my killfile almost EVERY time a
new version comes out. The superb multipart attachment handling is all
that's keeping this program around at the moment, backward compatibilty is
non-existent which is grating.

Its under development, if they are improving it
then that is what it takes. Remember Bill Gates's
640k or ram :) I think this app is excellent!

Pan 8

I had high hopes, but Pan didn't live up to them. It is great to look at
but not to use. No way to tell what posts you have pulled down. No
hot-key to pull the selected post(s). Horribly unstable.
It just isn't usable. Back to WINE and Agent I go.

Dependencies

Don't believe the dependencies....you really need to download just about
ALL of the gnome libs from October GNOME for pan 0.6.2 to work, even though
it only asks for a couple. But, it's still the best linux newsreader there
is.
