[»] oops .. no more napster for linux users
by Jeremy Manning - Aug 17th 2001 00:30:05

I have downloaded many napster programs such as this one .. and lately I have noticed that none of them are working because of the upgrade (for windows and mac only) at www.napster.com .. I am just wandering what is going to happen with all the linux clients for napster??

Of course there are plenty of OpenNap servers that you can use with non-Windows clients...

[»] Big improvements in 1.5.0!
by CulDee - Aug 13th 2001 08:24:27

Gnapster is now *really* useful!
Support for multiple servers and searching for servers that are up. These two alone makes for a big improvement! And there's much more new here...

(+ the program looks very very good to :)

Keep up the good work!

[»] 1.4.x not working
by tph - Jan 20th 2001 18:20:59

The 1.4 releases don't appear to work on my x86 Slackware machine with 2.2.17. 1.3.12 works fine. The client will connect to the server, but it immediately disconnects with no error message.

[»] Fantastic
by Skriv_Har - Nov 23rd 2000 21:22:28

Nice program, houston =] I got too excited by using gnapster... It's a lot better than other napster clients. The .tar.gz didn't work, although, but the RPM didn't show any dependencies (I think it's a good and basic program). Very good, congratulations!

[»] Napster forever!
by TZapper - Oct 16th 2000 01:15:37

I think that Napster is a revolutional music sharing software. And I am totally against closing it down or making it non-free. Some articles said that most american and european people are ready to pay for Napster, but i am not, not because i am greedy, but because this system must be free of charge. What are music producers are afraid of? I would still buy the CD if i liked the music a lot, and why, that's because MP3 portable players are expensive to buy. Anyway, where do the music come from in Napster? Same CDs! Artists have nothing to lose, Napster makes people buy the CDs instead. The progress is so large that this software has showed up in Linux very quickly. GNapster - as well as the original Napster is a great software.
Go Napster, go GNapster, go Macster!
..But if, it goes non-free system, electronica music must be always free.

[»] New Gnapster Compiles, Works Like A Charm
by Tim Little - Aug 18th 2000 20:25:27

Subject line says it all. Previously released version had "new user" bug, but the new tarball installed beautifully on RedHat 6.1, standard kernel. Starting enjoying downloads within minutes . My compliments to the author.

[»] logon
by Dracus - Aug 2nd 2000 16:47:19

I get the invalid password deal, too. Is there some trick to making a new user that I'm not seeing? Or does it have something to do with the huge napster controversy as of late?

by chronos_malfunct - Jul 31st 2000 12:27:59

I seem to keep getting these invalid password messages evrytime I try to log in . I am trying to set up a new user and apparently don't know how to sign up correctly . Is there a FAQ around ?

[»] Nice Napster clone
by Torbjørn Kristoffersen - May 21st 2000 06:12:20

GNapster is a very nice Napster clone with a neat UI. It did also
compile fast and with no errors on my Debian GNU/Linux
system (./configure;make took approximately 42 seconds on my
Celeron 466MHz.)

[»] Re: RPMs
by Kevin Vajk - Mar 15th 2000 00:59:06

There is an RPM spec file with the source .tar.gz file. That's all you need to create your own .src.rpm.

[»] Gnapster RPM
by kevin - Mar 11th 2000 16:42:22

I normally compile all my stiff, but the RPM works just fine on my custom RH box. And the guy who said tgz's are easier is on crack.

[»] works on slack7
by Kenneth Sanislo - Dec 13th 1999 22:24:44

Compiles and works great on Slackware 7.... and to think., i was really missing out by running redhat. This makes my switch well worth it =) (well... that, and TGZs are just easier than RPMs)

    [»] Lopster vs. Gnapster
    by Rob Cakebread - Feb 9th 2001 23:03:40

1.4.2 won't compile on RH6.2 with latest Helix Gnome. There is no RPM for 1.4.2. Soooooo... I checked out Lopster and it kicks butt!

It has way more features, lets you download any mime-type when connected to OpenNap and lets you associate applications to said mime-types.

Lopster is based on GTK - check it out.
