About: GPStrans is a program which allows track, route, and waypoint data to be transferred to and from a Garmin GPS. It also supports Mayko mXmap formats which enable you to create a route using your 'favorite' map and load the data into the GPS. Tracks retrieved from your Garmin GPS can be transferred back into your Mayko mXmap-capable application and replayed under Linux. Garmin 38, 40, 45XL, ..., 90, Etrex, and Etrex Summit models are supported. It also reads the current time, retrieves product data, and can turn the GPS off. Changes: Additional support for Swedish grid.

Support is provided both for POSIX platforms and native builds under Win32. The goal is to provide a truly common C++ framework for writing portable threaded applications that do not require a huge amount of runtime overhead to support, and hence can make C++ and threads suitable even for the development of trivial servers and applications. Changes: A fix for broken setTypeOfService(), APE and APE demo apps now build fully under Win32, APE fully builds under Tru64 Unix, and a new application configuration service.

MP4-SA is a standard for normative algorithmic sound, that combines an audio signal processing language (SAOL) with score languages (SASL, and the legacy MIDI File Format). Under Linux and Mac OS X, sfront supports real-time, low-latency audio input/output, local MIDI input from soundcards, and networked MIDI input using RTP and SIP. A SIP server hosted on the Berkeley campus manages sessions. The documentation includes a book about SAOL programming. Changes: Encoding and decoding of the streaming data part of the Structured Audio binary format, an improved default sfront help message, skip and size fields work correctly in sample wavetable generator, an instr can now correctly create copies of itself using the instr command, and bugfixes in the AIFF audio input driver.

About: GNU Phantom.Security is a computer-controlled security system. Using the software and a simple circuit board (diagram included) that you build, you can create a good basic security system that is computer controlled. The system can use off-the-shelf security devices like motion sensors, door magnets, and fire/smoke detectors with little to moderate modification. You can have a total of 5 devices per port. And if the machine the system is running on is connected to a LAN/WAN or the Internet, you can have it send e-mail. If you have a pager or cell phone capable of receiving e-mail, then you will have around the clock intrusion/fire detection for your home or office. Changes: A new stable release, and a complete manual in both HTML and PostScript formats.
About: GNU Phantom.Home is a computer controlled home automation system. The software includes a circuit diagram for building the Phantom.Home.Controller, a simple circuit board that attaches to your PC's parallel port. Using the combination of hardware/software you can control (i.e. flip on or off) nearly any 120V device. And with a little bit of electronics know-how, you can probably control nearly any device at any voltage by modifying the circuit board to meet your needs. The simple circuit included can be created and built for around $25. The modules cost around $10 (basically a heavy duty relay). Changes: Autolighting support (turn on/off any Phantom.Home-controlled appliance just by opening the door).

About: mpatrol is a link library that attempts to diagnose run-time errors that are caused by the wrong use of dynamically allocated memory, including writing to free memory and memory leaks. Along with providing a comprehensive and configurable log of all dynamic memory operations (such as malloc(), operator new, etc.) that occurred during the lifetime of a program, the mpatrol library performs extensive checking to detect any misuse of dynamically allocated memory and has support for both memory allocation profiling and tracing. A wide variety of library settings can also be changed at run-time via an environment variable, thus removing the need to recompile or relink in order to change the library's behaviour. Changes: A new section on threads in the mpatrol manual, new USEDEBUG option for displaying filenames and line numbers in call stacks if the executable file contains debugging information, definitions of the C++ operators now include source level information, new MP_NOCPLUSPLUS preprocessor macro for disabling C++ support in mpatrol.h, less incompatibilities in mpatrol.h with the library functions that it overrides, calling of the prologue and epilogue functions only for user allocations, memory operation functions continue to function even when the mpatrol library has been terminated, new support for building a tape archive distribution, and a new C++ test.

With kArchiver, you can create tar.gz, tar.bz2, .zip, and other files, and you can add, remove, or view one or more files with a multiselection window. Its interface merges with konqueror, allowing you to view and extract all of your archives within the file manager. Right-clicking on an archive allows you to extract archives in background. You can also convert files between .tar.gz and .tar.bz2. It also provides an automatic splitter/unsplitter to fit a file onto a set of floppies, and wizards that will help you step by step to compile and install software through kArchiver's interface. It can act as a command line tool, useful for creating and extracting archives without taking care of the compressor's name and its options. Changes: This release adds wizards for compiling and installing software without quiting karchiveur (for applying patches), a search tool (select a directory, and karchiveur will recursively find all archives; just open them with a click), and updated English and French docs & translations.

It runs as non-root for most of the time, and uses the Unix chroot() command to hide most of the systems directories from external users--they cannot change into them even if the server is totally compromised. It also contains its own directory-change and directory-listing code (most FTP servers execute the system "ls" command to list files). Changes: First public release.
About: Big Brother is a combination of monitoring methods. Unlike SNMP where information is just collected and devices polled, Big Brother is designed in such a way that each local system broadcasts its own information to a central location. Simultaneously, Big Brother also polls all networked systems from a central location. This creates a highly efficient and redundant method for proactive network monitoring. Changes: Temporary enable/disable of notifications, Status logs can be valid for a predetermined amount of time, basic support for skins, new enable/disable/data/notes message types, Caldera/Sinix support, self-correcting installation procedure, event logs per host, and a full log.
